(Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director President and CEO: Atsushi Omatsu; hereinafter “Nikken Sekkei”), which conceived and designed the new Daikin Vietnam headquarters building, “Daikin Air Tower,” in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, has received the highest Platinum rating under the international environmental certification“LEED” and the health certification “WELL,” as well as the highest Platinum rating under Vietnam’s environmental certification “LOTUS.” This is the first building in the world to achieve Platinum status in all three certifications.

Background: The challenge of air quality in Vietnam

In Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, which is experiencing rapid economic growth, there is growing awareness of air quality issues caused by fine particulate matter such as PM2.5 due to increased traffic and construction work. In this context, protecting the health of people working in the city and providing a safe and comfortable indoor environment is one of the most important themes in architectural design in Vietnam.

Certification Overview: Platinum status achieved through three certifications: "LEED," "WELL," and "LOTUS" (a world first).

In this project, taking into account the growing air quality challenges in Ho Chi Minh City, we have realized our vision of "addressing Vietnam's air quality needs with Daikin's technology." By adopting Daikin's advanced air conditioning technology throughout the building, we have achieved both significant energy savings and improved quality of the living environment, such as a workspace with abundant natural light and a clean indoor air environment, through architectural innovations such as a high-heat-insulating glass facade and rainwater reuse. Furthermore, by introducing a system that allows for real-time monitoring of energy consumption and indoor environmental quality, we pursued a sustainable and comfortable office environment from both hardware and software perspectives. As a result, we have obtained the highest rank, Platinum, in all three of the following international environmental certifications for buildings and cities: "LEED (v4 BD+C ─ Building Design and Construction)," "WELL (v2 pilot)," an international certification focusing on people's health and well-being, and "LOTUS (New Construction v3)," an environmental certification by the Vietnam Green Building Association. Obtaining Platinum in all three certifications is a world first.
