Announcement of the 41st NSRI Forum

Against the backdrop of efforts to build a sustainable society and enhance urban resilience, initiatives such as environmentally conscious architecture and seismic-isolation buildings are on the rise.While it is often said that the value of real estate can be explained by the principles of “proximity, novelty, and scale,” from the perspective of appropriately evaluating new initiatives, it is important to quantify the value of these architectural designs as economic value in the market.Furthermore, given recent advances in ICT, the potential for utilizing AI and big data is growing, and their application is also anticipated in the fields of architecture and urban planning.
For this session, we are pleased to welcome Professor Chihiro Shimizu, an expert in the above fields, as our guest speaker to discuss the future direction of the architecture and urban planning sectors. (Facilitator: Takahiro Kawazoe)

Speaker Profile

Ms. Chihiro Shimizu
(Professor, Nihon University; Researcher, Real Estate Research Center, Massachusetts Institute of Technology)
Withdrew from the doctoral program at the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology, in 1994; earned a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, The University of Tokyo.
After working at the Japan Real Estate Research Institute and other organizations, he joined Recruit in 2000. Upon joining the company, he established the Recruit Housing Research Institute (now the Sumai Research Institute) and led the development of new businesses utilizing big data.
He currently serves as a Fellow at the Recruit Housing Research Institute and the Recruit AI Research Institute, among other roles. In addition to Nihon University, he teaches at Reitaku University, the University of British Columbia, Tokyo Metropolitan University, and the National University of Singapore. His research focuses on the development of indices using big data and the measurement of productivity.
