Cities in France and elsewhere in Europe have demonstrated that creating a vibrant urban atmosphere through comprehensive measures—such as public transportation like LRT and the utilization of public spaces in city centers—is not merely a question of “Is it possible?” but rather a reality that “can be achieved.” We are pleased to welcome Yumi Vinson Fujii, author of numerous books on urban development in France, to discuss the factors behind this success and the history of these initiatives.Ms. Fujii has conducted numerous interviews with local government officials. At this forum, she will deliver a lecture based on her extensive data collection and insights from the perspective of ordinary citizens, while also incorporating the latest information from the field.

Yumi Vanson Fujii
Business Consultant (Japan-France Cross-Cultural Training Instructor)
Born in Osaka. After obtaining the “Certificate for Teaching French to Foreigners” from the French Ministry of National Education, she lived primarily in Paris and throughout Europe from the 1980s onward, working as an interpreter. Since 2003, as a corporate training instructor certified by the French government’s Labor Office, she has planned “Japan-France Cross-Cultural Training” programs for private companies and public institutions.Her publications include *Urban Development in Strasbourg: A Bustling Regional City with Trams* (recipient of the Japan Society of Civil Engineers Publishing Culture Award) and the co-authored work *Why Are There No “Shutter Streets” in French Regional Cities?* (both published by Gakugei Publishing).Books for which she has served as translation supervisor include *A Book to Understand the Real France* (recommended by the French Embassy in Japan; Hara Shobo). http://www.fujii.fr/
