Winners Announced for the “2018 Urban Public Space Design Competition”

This international competition, organized by Nikken Sekkei, marked its third edition. This year’s event, themed around “Shibuya-style” public spaces, was co-hosted by Nikken Sekkei and the Shibuya Future Design (FDS) General Incorporated Association—of which Nikken Sekkei is a participating partner—with support from Shinkenchiku-sha and sponsorship from Akatsuki.
A total of 224 entries were received—127 from Japan and 97 from overseas (out of 495 registered entries). The jury was chaired by Takayuki Kishii, with jury members Tatsuo Nishizawa,Chiaki Hayashi, and Natsuo Sato. The first-round judging took place on December 21 at Nikken Sekkei’s Takebashi Office, and the public second-round judging was held on March 8 at Shibuya Hikarie 8/COURT. As a result, one Grand Prize, three Excellence Awards, and six Honorable Mentions were selected.
