Architecture and cities have evolved in close connection with “mobility.” It is no exaggeration to say that mobility spaces—such as parking lots, drop-off zones, logistics routes, and urban streets—have significantly influenced the nature of architecture and cities by serving as their interface.Currently, Japan, Europe, the United States, and China are engaged in a fierce competition to develop autonomous vehicles, and the Japanese government is also aiming to usher in a society of autonomous vehicles by the 2020s. How should our architecture and cities change in a society of autonomous vehicles? We will invite experts well-versed in autonomous vehicle societies and urban planning to explore what the future might look like.

Instructor Profile
Takayuki Morikawa (Professor, Institute for Mobility Society, Organization for the Creation of Future Society, Nagoya University)
Graduated from the Department of Transportation and Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Kyoto University.
Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
He has held positions as a research assistant at Kyoto University, an associate professor at Nagoya University, and a visiting associate professor at MIT, and currently holds his current position.
His areas of expertise include transportation planning, consumer behavior theory, and advanced mobility. Having secured competitive research grants, he serves as the leader of numerous research projects related to transportation policy, ITS, and next-generation vehicles.
