Hosting international sporting events during the COVID-19 pandemic has provided us with many insights and moments of inspiration. In keeping with the spirit of this year, we are pleased to welcome Mr. Katsuyuki Kiyomiya, Vice President of the Japan Rugby Football Union (Chairman), from the world of sports.Mr. Kiyomiya has a proven track record of uniting members of diverse nationalities on university and corporate rugby teams and leading them to championship titles. In the process, he has developed management techniques applicable across various fields. We sincerely hope you will tune in to watch.

Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1967. He began playing rugby at Osaka Prefectural Mattā High School and competed in the National High School Rugby Tournament at Hanazono during his junior year. He was also selected for the Japanese high school national team. In 1986, he enrolled at the Waseda University. He became a starter in his freshman year and won the Japan Championship in his sophomore year. As captain in his senior year, he led the team to victory in the University Championship.After graduating from college, he joined Suntory, Ltd. in 1990 and immediately joined the Suntory Rugby Club, where he played a key role as a key player, serving as captain from 1992 to 1994. After retiring in 2001, he was appointed head coach of the Waseda University Rugby Club.After taking the helm, he led the team to five consecutive undefeated championships in the Kanto University Rugby Tournament and won the University Championship three times, becoming the driving force behind the revival of Waseda rugby. In 2006, he returned to the Suntory Rugby Club as head coach for the first time in five years. In 2007, his second year as head coach, he led Suntory to its first-ever Top League championship.
He resigned as head coach at the end of the 2009 season. In 2011, he became head coach of the Yamaha Motor Rugby Club. He led the team—which had scaled back its development efforts due to the Lehman Shock—to the national championship in four years.
He stepped down as head coach at the end of the 2018–2019 season. In January 2019, in Shizuoka Prefecture, he founded the Azalea Sports Club, a general incorporated association and comprehensive sports club for women and children. In June 2019, he was appointed Vice Chairman of the Japan Rugby Football Union, a public interest incorporated foundation.
