NIKKEN FORUM Webinar (February 22)
Beyond Sustainability: Toward Regenerative Design

SEMINAR/EVENT
2023.12.21
“Regenerative” is increasingly being used to describe an approach that goes beyond “sustainability”—which implies merely maintaining the status quo—and instead aims for a circular economy and environmental regeneration as we work toward a decarbonized society. As climate change risks in architecture and urban planning intensify and biodiversity initiatives gain greater market significance, we have reached a turning point where we must move beyond the balanced approach of “sustainability” to aim for net-zero carbon. How should we reconcile and advance both vibrant economic activity and a drastic reduction in environmental impact?

We are pleased to welcome architect Tetsuo Kobori—who, through diverse forms of co-creation in the fields of architecture and urban planning, is defining the architecture we should strive for and putting “regenerative” principles into practice—as our guest speaker. Together with all participants, we will take this opportunity to explore pathways toward achieving net-zero carbon by 2050.
