Nikken Sekkei is supporting the event “Summer Riko Challenge 2025—Experience Careers in Science and Engineering!” organized by the Bureau for Gender Equality (Cabinet Office), which aims to foster talent in science and engineering, and will be hosting a workshop.
The environmental issues we face are among the social challenges that every single person on Earth must address.In this workshop, participants will learn about the “circular economy”—an approach that promotes the efficient use of limited resources by considering ease of demolition and disassembly from the design stage, thereby circulating resources without generating waste. Based on this concept, participants will explore the initiatives implemented at the Tokyo Olympics’ “Athletes’ Village Plaza,” which was designed with the circular economy in mind, and use a model-based workshop to consider the methods needed to reuse these structures.
The Nikken Sekkei Tokyo Building reopened in April 2023 following renovations to the first through fourth floors. In addition to environmentally friendly natural materials, the building actively incorporates recycled materials and products in line with the principles of the circular economy.By taking a tour of this office and experiencing firsthand a glimpse of the design concepts our architects develop in their daily work, we hope you will gain a deeper appreciation for the significance of architectural design. Architectural design is not merely about constructing buildings; it plays a vital role in contributing to society and shaping the future. Let’s work together to create new value and help solve the challenges facing architecture and the environment in the future.

What is Riko Challenge?
"Science and Engineering Challenge" (Riko-Challe) is an initiative led by the Bureau for Gender Equality (Cabinet Office) to encourage middle and high school students, as well as college students, to develop an interest in science and engineering fields, clearly envision their future selves, and make informed career choices (challenges).
