On October 30, 2025, the “2025 National Games” Greening and Beautification Achievements Exhibition and the 32nd Guangzhou Garden Expo (Fall) officially opened in Guangzhou. Under the theme “A Green and Beautiful Guangzhou Blooming in the Bay Area,” this exhibition aims to showcase Guangzhou’s latest progress in greening and beautification through displays of international garden art, with the goal of promoting ecological civilization and cultural integration within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
At the specially created “Garden of the Masters (Daishi-en),” world-class design teams were invited to create international garden art under the theme of “Vision and Soul.” Nikken Sekkei is developing a spatial narrative centered on time, the city, and vitality along Guangzhou’s New Central Axis, the riverside greenbelt, and the Haixinsha area. The design project received the Best Creativity Award at the 2025 “Yangcheng Craftsman Cup” Landscaping Skills Competition (Special Award).
Under the theme “Container of Time and Space,” the design team created an immersive experience space that primarily uses mirrored surfaces to reflect and reconfigure urban landmarks and flower beds, allowing visitors to transcend time and space as they wander through the garden and feel the legacy of the city’s memories. The multifaceted spatial composition draws inspiration from the traditional Japanese craft of “kiriko” and the “yarai” pattern; by combining multifaceted mirrors with a spiral arrangement of plants, it expresses a spatial order where reality and illusion intertwine. The mirrored surfaces soften boundaries, while the pathways through the flower beds connect the spaces, ultimately leading visitors to a circular structure symbolizing “kiriko.” Flowers cascade down an entire wall like a waterfall, powerfully expressing the vitality of both the flowers and Guangzhou.
The exhibition runs through December 15. We invite you to experience time, space, and vitality through an interactive experience woven from flowers and mirrors.
