Ikumi Inoue
Representative Director

Since undertaking a hotel design project in Hanoi in 1994, Nikken Sekkei has been working to address social challenges arising from the country’s development. In August 2023, we transitioned from a structure consisting of two representative offices—which had been in operation for 17 years—to the establishment of our local subsidiary, Nikken Sekkei Vietnam. By leveraging our experience and expertise from Japan, we are now firmly rooted in the ever-changing and growing Vietnamese landscape, serving as a more accessible partner for the people of Vietnam.

The Vietnamese market is growing rapidly and serves as a treasure trove of projects that embody Nikken Sekkei’s mission to “solve social challenges”—including the design of station buildings for Ho Chi Minh City Metro Line 1, the VIP terminal and air traffic control tower for Hanoi’s second airport (Gia Binh International Airport),and the formulation of a master plan for Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) directly connected to planned rail lines and stations in the suburbs of Ho Chi Minh City—all of which make Vietnam a treasure trove of projects that embody Nikken Sekkei’s mission to “solve social issues.”

We will continue to contribute to Vietnamese society for many years to come, while ensuring that our young design staff thoroughly learn Nikken Sekkei’s corporate philosophy and the vision for social and environmental design we strive to achieve.

PROJECTS

The Landmark & Swanlake Residence

Hung Yen Province, Vietnam
Located in the lush green "Eco Park" neighborhood near Hanoi, this super high-rise residential complex consists of five buildings and a total of 2,841 units facing Swan Lake. The plan maximizes the number of lake-view units along the 600-meter-long lakeshore.
Based on the concept of "Smiling Flowers," each building features eaves and high balconies inspired by cherry blossoms, plum blossoms, osmanthus, camellias, and crape myrtle.
The low-rise buildings, shaped like terraced rice paddies and featuring plantings that evoke the four seasons of Japan, express a Japanese aesthetic.
