Yasutaka Nishida

In 1986, after completing his master’s degree at Kanazawa University, he joined Nikken Sekkei. His specialty is urban planning. He possesses a broad range of planning expertise and a proven track record in the planning techniques essential for urban development—including land-use planning, road and transportation planning, underground space planning, and environmentally sustainable planning—necessary for new urban development and the redevelopment of existing urban areas.During the 1995 Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, he gained experience in drafting the Basic Plan for Urban Reconstruction, and since then has expanded his scope of expertise to include urban disaster prevention planning. In 2009, he co-authored the book *Concepts and Implementation of Urban Stabilization Planning*.In recent years, in China—where efforts are underway to restructure urban infrastructure with the goal of shifting from a car-centric to a public transportation-centric society—he has been engaged in Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) planning by applying the urban infrastructure planning techniques accumulated through Japan’s long history of urban development. He is a Certified Professional Engineer (Construction Division) and a member of the Japanese Institute of Urban Planning.
