Leveraging Environmental Characteristics to Create a Framework for Regional Revitalization

The SDK Kumamoto Building is an office complex that offers views of Kumamoto Castle—one of Japan’s most iconic medieval castles—along with a convenient and comfortable working environment. It was constructed on the site where Seibu Electric Industries, a long-established ICT company in Kyushu, had relocated its headquarters from Kumamoto to Fukuoka. The vision the developer entrusted to this project was to contribute to the community by fostering a vibrant neighborhood. To achieve this, the building needed to become an indispensable part of the community while also serving as a profitable real estate asset that would continue to be used by many people; we believed that striking this balance would create a sustainable form of community contribution. This philosophy underpinned the project’s viability and illuminated the building’s architectural vision.
