Medical Treatment Design Fusion

SAGA HIMAT is the first cancer treatment facility in Japan’s Kyushu region to use heavy-ion beams. Nikken Sekkei employed an architectural design that includes the layout of treatment equipment such as the linear accelerator, combined with their original design for shielding high-energy neutron radiation. The building layout allows abundant natural light into the radiation-controlled area from a pocket garden (courtyard). It also achieves a balance between safety, economy, and amenity, in part by using normal steel doors between therapy rooms and the therapy hall.
