"One guest, one house"

The concept for this project is "Ikkyaku ittei" ("One guest, one house"), a phrase coined to express the spirit of hospitality that the master of a tea ceremony room extends to a single guest. It is derived from the homophone "ikkyaku ittei," meaning "one guest, one pavilion.“ Guest rooms are designed in the image of a traditional tea room, and offer functional beauty and comfort, including convenient bathrooms and convertible sofas resembling verandas. The interior design is a modern interpretation and reconfiguration of spatial tea room elements, including latticework, tatami mats, sliding doors, hanging scrolls and tea ceremony utensils, which create the dignified atmosphere of a tea room. Artwork includes original graphics of pine trees and chrysanthemums inspired by the sliding door paintings of Nijo Castle, wallpaper with Kyoto mountain motifs, and carpets that evoke the beautiful murmur of the Kamo River, in tune with the Nijo Kawaramachi district where the hotel stands.
