PYNT is Nikken Sekkei’s co-creation platform designed to “create new options for the future of our communities.”
Since our founding in April 2023, we have continued to bring together a diverse group of people from both inside and outside the organization to create new options for the future of our communities. By taking a broad, holistic view of communities and daily life, incorporating diverse perspectives, and devising comprehensive systems to solve social issues—all with the goal of improving people’s lives and the environment—we refer to this approach as “Social Environmental Design.” As a space that promotes “Social Environmental Design”—which goes beyond mere physical spaces—PYNT connects those directly affected by social issues with experts, aiming to bring these solutions to life through co-creation.

PYNT drives its initiatives through its unique “Co-creation Steps” to generate medium- to long-term impact on society.
PYNT has its own unique co-creation process designed to connect people and generate projects. We have formalized this process by defining specific actions for each step and setting goals for the conditions required to advance to the next step, and we carry out our activities while formulating hypotheses. By progressing step-by-step—from initial encounters to discussion, implementation, and societal deployment—we have built a system that generates not only short-term results but also medium- to long-term social impact. To date, more than 30 projects have been launched, and our partnerships with local communities and businesses continue to expand.
What Is Social and Environmental Design as Practiced at PYNT?
It is the act of reimagining and redesigning the environment surrounding people’s lives and activities—not by optimizing each element individually, but by viewing it as an interconnected system. Many social issues that are often dismissed as “inevitable” stem largely from the fact that these relationships and structures have become entangled and rigid. If these connections change, the options for a city’s future will expand. We promote social environmental design by implementing a multi-layered approach that combines five layers—including community, buildings, and production—to move from the present toward our “desired future.”

We believe that without long-term, cross-organizational and cross-sectoral solidarity, we cannot make a meaningful impact on society. That is why at PYNT, we are fostering “FUTURE COLLECTIVES”—communities where people interested in the same themes and challenges come together to envision and take action for the future of our cities.Based on these four themes, we will continue to evolve as we transform the practical knowledge gained through various projects into shared knowledge.

FUTURE LENS
Nikken Sekkei, in collaboration with Zebras and Company (Z&C), which invests in and provides management support to zebra companies, has launched "FUTURE LENS," a co-creation type social and environmental design program, and is currently working with three selected companies. The PYNT team not only provides funding for demonstration research but also works alongside Z&C to support the companies. From the perspective of social and environmental design, they will work with local social entrepreneurs to create a system that aims to solve a wider range of social issues through co-creation.
