COOP Kyosai Plaza

A prototype for an environmentally advanced office building in the city center that incorporates wall-mounted greenery across its entire exterior on a large scale to reduce environmental impact. The newly developed “Green Blind” vertical greening system has been installed on the east and west facades, creating an iconic exterior while contributing to the improvement of the surrounding urban environment, including the mitigation of the urban heat island effect. “Green Blind” is a system that creates continuous planting strips on the balconies of each floor, allowing climbing plants to grow up the climbing supports—such as wires and chain gutters—that form part of the exterior design, while simultaneously enhancing the evaporative cooling effect through foliar irrigation from above. The building as a whole is conceived as a single environmental system, closely integrating greening and environmental technologies with architectural design.
