Transforming Sri Lanka’s Commercial Capital
This project site is located in Sri Lanka’s Colombo Harbour, the largest port in the nation’s largest city, Colombo, its commercial capital. The concept was envisioned by former president Mahinda Rajapaksa to transform the Harbour into a new financial district. The new district plan featured grade A offices, medical and educational facilities, an integrated resort, a marina, retail shops, hotels and other lifestyle-enhancing amenities. Two office towers atop tapered pedestals provide wide public plazas at their feet. “People-centric” and “smart and sustainable” were two of Nikken Sekkei’s six key objectives, the landscape for which aspires to respect the rich natural environment with lush greenery and tangible water features.
