Katsumi Niwa

After completing his studies in Environmental Planning at the Graduate School of Engineering, Kobe University, in 1989, he joined Nikken Sekkei.
Since then, he has been responsible for the environmental and mechanical/electrical design of numerous environmentally conscious buildings, including the Yamanashi Prefectural Institute of Environmental Science (now the Yamanashi Prefectural Mount Fuji Science Institute), Iwate Prefectural University, the Nippon Life Marunouchi Building, the Yusuhara Town General Government Building, the Kagoshima Environmental Future Museum, and the Tokyo Gas Earthport ZEB retrofit project.
Recently, he has been focusing on the development and promotion of “J-CAT®,” the “Manual for Calculating GHG Emissions During Construction,” and the “Draft Methodology for Calculating Greenhouse Gas Reduction Contributions in the Construction and Real Estate Sectors” to advance decarbonization efforts across the entire supply chain in the construction and real estate industries.
