A Medical and Research Hub at the Heart of BNCT, a New Cancer Treatment Method
BNCT (Boron Neutron Capture Therapy) is an innovative, minimally invasive cancer treatment that selectively destroys cancer cells by irradiating them with neutrons after they have taken up boron. It is expected to be effective against refractory cancers—such as highly invasive cancers—that are difficult to treat with current surgical or radiation therapies. Built on the campus of Osaka University of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences (formed in 2021 through the merger of Osaka Medical College and Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences), the center’s exterior design was created to harmonize with the surrounding campus buildings, incorporating horizontal eaves and earth-tone colors. As a medical facility handling specialized radiation, safety is the top priority; however, the design incorporates soothing colors, wood-textured materials, and soft indirect lighting to create a healing environment that alleviates patients’ anxiety and allows them to focus on their treatment.
