Takaaki Udagawa

In 1995, after completing the Graduate School of Engineering at Musashi Institute of Technology (now Tokyo City University), he worked at the Toshihiko Kimura Structural Design Office and the Structural Space Design Office before joining Nikken Sekkei in 2007.He has introduced new seismic damping technologies into high-rise buildings and designed structures that integrate with rich architectural spaces using a variety of materials. Even when faced with challenging conditions, he finds it rewarding to solve these problems, thereby creating new architectural spaces that bring joy to clients and users.Major projects he has led include the seismic retrofit of the Shinjuku Sumitomo Building, Kokugakuin University’s Comprehensive Learning Center (Building No. 6), Amakusa City Hall, the Amakusa mixed-use complex “Cocorasu,” Shirokane-no-Oka Gakuen, and the Narita International Airport Terminal 2 Connecting Corridor, Japanese Red Cross Ashikaga Hospital. He is a First-Class Architect specializing in structural design.
